Special Piping Material (Nigeria) Limited manufactures Spiral Wound Gaskets according to Flexitallic's Standard at it's facility in the heart of the Niger Delta at Warri, Delta State, Nigeria. We also have soft-cut machines at our facility that can be used for sheet gaskets.

Flexitallic, the world's leading manucfacturer and supplier of static seals and the originator of the spiral wound gasket, is committed to sealing solutions for today's industry. The concept of spiral wound gasket construction was originated by Flexitallic in 1912, inaugurating the begining of a new era in safe, effective sealing. The primary purpose for this development was the increasingly severe temperatures and pressures used by U.S refinery operators in the first half of the century.

Our gaskets are manufactured with full technical support from flexitallic and are of the quality, using flexitallic approved raw materials. A requirement of any gasket is the ability to recover under variable loads. The effects of pressure and temperature difference across the flange face, alond with flange rotation, bolt stress relaxation and creep, demand a gasket with adequate flexibility and recovery, to maintain a seal under variable working conditions. The spiral wound gasket meets these requirements.

A spiral wound gasket is manufactured by spirally winding a preformed matal strip and a filler on the outer periphery of metal winding mandrels. The winding mandrel outside diameter forms the inner diameter of the gasket and the superposed metal and non-metallic windings are continually wound until the required outer diameter is attained. Normal practice is to reinforce the inner and outer diameters with several plies of metal without fillers. This engineered product is "tailor made" to be compatible with the flange closure in which it is to be used.
